|  | for a period of 1,500 years lasting from roughly 5,500 years ago to 4,000years ago , there was a large- scale Jomon settlement at the current Sannai-maruyama site Aomori city . The remains of over 550 jomon period pit dwellings have been serveyed at the site so far . Remains have also been found of both an extremely large bit dwellings and a large structure built using pillars a meter in diameter . The site is of exceptional importance because it has overturned conventional ideas about the jomon period , both because of the sheer size of the settlement ana because of the information the remains provide about the lifestyle and technological skill of the Jomon people . |
